THE PRIESTLY ROBE
Touch it lightly, or not at all.
Let it not fall !
Let not a fabric so august
Trail in the dust!
`Tis a costly thing,
Woven by love in suffering.
`Twas Jesus` parting gift to men.
When the Lord rose to Heaven again,
His latest breathing fell on it.
A mystery hides within its folds.
Quickened by sacramental breath,
It holds
The power of life and death.
Would you sully it ? Would you rend it?
Is there a Christian would not defend it-
A robe so costly and so rare,
So wonderfully fair ?
Woe to the hand profane
Woe to the heart ungracious,
Woe to the tongue unheeding,
Would dare to cast a stain
On a vestment made so precious
By such costly bleeding!
II
I know this robe and its history,
And what strange virtue goeth forth
From its hem to bless the earth;
And I adore the mystery
That gives it grace,
In Jesus` name, to soothe and heal.
With more than human tenderness
I prize the priestly order;
And, while the reverent knee I kneel,
I do not see beneath the border
Frail feet of clay,
But seek to find, if so I may,
By feeling,
Some gracious thread which will convey
To my sore spirit healing.
Vicars of Christ ! deem me not rude,
If nearer than is wont I press me;
But turn and bless me
Amid the kneeling multitude.

Reflection
for the Epiphany
The Epiphany of the Lord is the manifestation of Christ who is the light and salvation of God for all peoples. God manifested the arrival of the true King to the Magi and they start a long and arduous journey to search for the Child. Guided by the light of a star they found Him and adored Him.
The Magi embody all those who with hope and faith search for that light that can return the meaning to their lives. In other words, those who seek God. Faith is a constant search that requires crossing through darkness, as we encounter difficulties and abandon the comfort of our own thinking, in order to walk the extraordinary paths that lead to God.
The Magi were humble and simple individuals. They did not flaunt their human wisdom. Prostrated before a child like any other, they discovered in Him the Prince and Master of all wisdom. As a result, they opened their gifts, more importantly their hearts to the child. Their reward would be being filled with the divine mystery. They were able to find what others were incapable of finding: neither the prideful scribes, nor the ambitious Herod. Perhaps the Magi had a childlike heart, capable of dreaming and believing the incredible.
Like Herod, the arrogant who can’t lift their eyes to the skies, the short-sighted towards the manifestations of God, the hard-hearted and those who live in selfishness and ambition can never experience and celebrate the Epiphany. Because the Epiphany is radiance for those who know to lift their eyes to Heaven and don’t become hunched towards earthly things. The Magi knew how to read the message of God in the star and they searched for it in the darkness and became wisely deaf to the opinions of others, especially towards the poisonous interests of Herod.
Thus, dearly beloved, let us become manifestation of the God of love, hope and justice. Let us offer our Savior Jesus and our brethren the best of us: our heart, our life, and our time. Hopefully, we can become like a star that guides, orients and shine over those who seek God.

A New Year's message from our beloved Pastor St. Martha Parish Enfield Ct.
Father Robert Villa
Father Robert Villa
Dear friends:
I wish to express my most sincere good wishes as your
servant and spiritual father and pastor of this beautiful community of Saint
Martha.
As
we take leave of this last day of the year 2017 and welcome 2018, I pray that
Our Blessed Lord Jesus, together with Mary and Joseph fills you and your homes
with blessings of grace and peace. I hope and pray we can forget the sad experiences
of this past year, both as a community and individually, and prepare for the
joys ahead, so that together we embrace a new year, working in unity in
creating a new chapter of this beautiful story of Saint Martha parish and
school family.
We
have worked a lot this year, and we have suffered a lot together. Now, in this
new year, with the same passion and readiness to embrace what’s ahead, let us
work arduously and with a stronger enthusiasm to make our community a LIVING
AND EVANGELIZING parish and school.
I
count on your prayers and wish you all have a prosperous new year, filled with
abundant blessings in the Lord and Mary, Our most Holy Mother, and Saint
Joseph, patron saint of families.
Happy
New Year.
In
Christ,
Fr.
Robert Villa
